•STARS, STORIES AND S’MORES: 9:30 to 11 p.m. Aug. 8, Eisler’s Grove Picnic Area, South Shore, Moraine State Park. Hear the park naturalist tell our ancestors’ stories about the stars and constellations around the fire for some old-fashioned entertainment. We will have s’mores to cook too, while we look up and find the constellations. Bring a chair or blanket and binoculars if you have them.

•CHILDREN’S SUMMER ARTS FESTIVAL: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 9, Arts & Education at the Hoyt, 124 East Leasure Ave. Free outdoor event on the Hoyt lawn featuring crafts, entertainment and concessions. Held rain or shine.

•SUMMER WILDFLOWER HIKE: 10 a.m. Aug. 9, McDanel’s Launch Area, North Shore, Moraine State Park. Join a park naturalist on an easy one-mile walk along the Butterfly Trail to learn about the diverse summer wildflowers at the park. Meet beside Pavilion 7 at the McDanel’s Boat Launch Area.

•DIVINE GRACE PARISH FESTIVAL: 5 to 10 p.m. Aug. 9 and 10; 4 to 9 p.m. Aug. 11, St. Ferdinand Church, 2535 Rochester Road, Cranberry Township. Games, dunk tank, food booths, raffle baskets, 50/50 drawings, bingo, nightly meals and entertainment, a large white elephant sale and a children’s area with bounce houses, character experiences, a balloon artist and train rides. •SALAMANDER SAFARI: 4 to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 10, meet at the Hells Hollow Trail Parking Lot, McConnells Mill State Park. Join the park naturalist to explore Hell Run Creek for salamanders and all the other critters that live there. Fun for the whole family. Dress for the weather, bring water and wear sturdy shoes.

•BARN SALE: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 10 and 11, Briar Brook Barn, 330 Eastbrook Neshannock Falls Road. Home decor, antiques, handcrafted goods and more. Fresh Amish doughnuts Aug. 10. Hoshi Pittsburgh food truck, specialty coffee both days. Farmers Market on Aug. 10, car cruise 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 11, DJ Gregg Marshall, no entry fee.

•POLISH AMERICANS OF LAWRENCE COUNTY: 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 15, Crooked Tongue Brewing, 2516 Ben Franklin Highway, Route 422, Edinburg. Join the group for conversation. Food and beverages available to purchase.

•WINE WALK: 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 16. Begins at the Ellwood City Public Library, 415 Lawrence Ave. Second annual event featuring wine, craft beer, spirits and food vendors. •TOUCH A TRUCK: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 17, Leesburg ECO Presbyterian Church, 1831 Perry Highway in Volant. The free event for all kids is expected to feature more than 50 distinct kinds of things that go along with clowns, balloon animals, facepainting, music and refreshments. •FULL MOON PADDLE: 7:30 to 10 p.m. Aug. 19, Old 422 Launch by Region 2 Office, Prospect Exit off Route 422, Moraine State Park. Start the evening off by paddling off into the sunset, then turn around and watch the moon rise light up the night. A limited number of kayaks are available or bring your own. Life jackets required to be worn. Ages 12 and up, under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration required by calling the park office at (724) 368-8811.

•ROTARY CLUB CHICKEN BBQ: 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 23, New Wilmington Borough Park. Dine in or take out meals for $15 include half chicken, bag of chips, applesauce, roll with butter and dessert. •WALL REPAIR WORKSHOP: 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 24, Lawrence County Partners for Preservation, 111 E. Lincoln Ave. (across from the Scottish Rite Cathedral). All supplies provided. Free, although those attending must sign up in advance at https://www.lcppreserve.org/

•AIRPLANES AND AUTOMOBILES: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 24, New Castle Airport, 406 Frank Farone Drive. Free event featuring aviation and classic cars. Local food trucks will be present and helicopter and airplane rides will be offered. Dash plaques will be available for a limited number of cars on a first-come, first-served basis. •MEMORIES CAR CRUISE: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 25, downtown New Castle. Antique, classic and special interest vehicles. Entertainment by Jimmy and The Soul Blazers, Jimmie Ross and the Jaggerz plus DJs playing oldies. Door prizes, event T-shirts, 50/50 raffle, auctions, food and craft vendors. Registration starts at 10 a.m. with dash plaques and goody bags for the first 200 cars. •ELLWOOD CITY AMERICAN LEGION POST 147 PICNIC: 1 p.m. Aug. 25, Ewing Park main shelter. Open to members, their families and guests. Veterans who are not members of the post are welcome as well. Members are asked to bring a side dish to share. Hot dogs, hamburgers, drinks, and table service are provided. Reservations are needed by Aug. 19 by calling Joseph Fisher at (724) 758-6227.

•ULSTER TO ALLEGHENY, A SCOTS-IRISH IMMIGRATION STORY: 6:30 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Lawrence County Historical Society’s Annex building, 408 N. Jefferson St. Join Megan Clark Young, a professional genealogist, to learn about the second-largest group of settlers in Pennsylvania, the Scots-Irish. $10 per person. •INDOOR/OUTDOOR YARD SALE: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 14, Mahoning Valley Grange, 1208 Skyhill Road, Edinburg. $2 tickets for quilt raffle and door prizes. Apple butter and cookbooks for sale. Kitchen open. To rent a table for $10 each, call Karen at (724) 674-8244.

Any Ellwood resident who has an unserviceable flag can take it to the Ellwood City Municipal Building or the United Methodist Church on Crescent Avenue before Sept. 14.
